Tamtron X Novatron – Developing the Excavator Scale

Tamtron’s innovative Excavator Scale was launched onto market in 2025. The solutions enable automatic weighing during normal loading. Designed for real work environments, it has modern and intuitive user interface that is easy to learn and fast to use, minimizing training time and operational errors. When Tamtron, a leading provider of advanced weighing solutions, started to develop the product, the company turned to Novatron for specific expertise in the field of sensor technology and processing the weighing information on machine control software.

As an experienced product developer, Tamtron recognized the need for advanced machine control expertise to ensure a fast development process and seamless integration of accurate sensor data into the weighing software. They contacted Novatron.

Novatron is a pioneer in automation technology for infrastructure construction, developing advanced machine guidance systems since 1991. Today the company offers solutions for digitalization, machine control and data management on construction sites as well as advanced components, such as IMU sensors, and software development for OEM’s. On this project Novatron contributed both sensor technology and machine control software expertise to the solution.

“From the beginning, the goal was to build a solution that is scalable and compatible across different machine platforms. This is very much aligned with how we develop our own OEM-ready technologies at Novatron.” says Jani Hänninen, OEM Sales Director at Novatron.

From software to sensors and hardware to cloud services, Novatron offers real FullStack design expertise for OEM’s.

The Excavator Scale is compatible with all excavator brands

“The developing of an excavator scale was driven by a clear market need. Increasing inquiries from the customers to have reliable weighing data directly from the machine”, Alakoski says.

What makes this product perfect for any construction site is that it can be fitted into any excavator brand.

This requirement was also familiar to Novatron, as the company’s own Xsite machine control systems can be also fitted to any work machine brand and is as such the preferred system by many rental fleet companies. Additionally, Novatron’s 2D machine control solution can be factory-fitted by OEM’s and offer cost-efficient solution towards a higher level of automation.

A successful co-development project

“The market feedback has been really positive. The customers appreciate ease of use and ability to streamline their operations”, Alakoski tells.

“Looking ahead, we see a great potential for the joint innovation with Novatron, for example, by developing new functionalities for the excavator scale”, Alakoski says.

The project was so successful that Tamtron AB in Sweden and Novatron Sweden AB later entered into a strategic partnership to strengthen their positions as premium suppliers of weighing and machine control solutions. The partnership creates synergies that deliver added value for customers, with a focus on innovation, integration, and long-term thinking.
