The Tampere Tramway is being built using Novatron’s Xsite® 3D Machine Control System and infra software

The Tampere Tramway is being extended to make everyday life easier for the city’s residents. This will provide Tampere city and Pirkkala municipality with a more efficient and environmentally friendly public transport system. The Pirkkala–Linnainmaa tram line will be implemented in two phases, utilizing Novatron’s measuring equipment and software, from Hatanpään valtatie in Tampere to Suuppa in Pirkkala and from Tays to Linnainmaa.

In the first phase (2024–2028), the tram sections from Sorin aukio to Partola and from the Kauppi campus to Ruotula will be built. The aim is to commence tram services to these temporary terminus stops in August 2028.

In the second phase (2028–2032), sections are scheduled to be built from Partola to Suuppa in Pirkkala and from Ruotula to Linnainmaa. Services to Suuppa and Linnainmaa could begin in early 2032, provided that state funding for the project is secured.

Easy construction with Novatron’s 3D system and software

Novatron’s 3D-Win infra software has been developed to meet the needs of Finnish infrastructure designers and site management. It helps users to check, edit, calculate, model and convert data between different systems.

At the Tampere tramway construction site, 3D-Win is in daily use.

It’s quite rare for a designer to have a clear understanding of exactly what the machine operators want. At least in our line of work – what I and my colleagues in other departments do – we adapt the data quite a lot to suit the requirements on site.
And in practice, that’s done using 3D-Win.

Novatron’s Xsite 3D machine control system, on the other hand, is a measuring device used by machine operators, into which data verified by site management is uploaded via the Xsite MANAGE cloud service.

I think it’s the easiest one and a better measuring tool than
any other. I like to use it so that not everything’s visible on the screen at the same time–I just take layers out, bit by bit, once I’ve finished.
I get a much clearer picture that way, as I don’t have everything crammed into the same shot.

— It’s simple to use. It’s the only measuring tool that I like.

I’d definitely recommend it.
